The Department comprises at present about 120 full-time faculty members, 8 fixed-term research assistants, 41 temporary research fellows and more than 70 Ph.D. students.

The University of Catania (Italian: Università degli Studi di Catania) is a university located in Catania, Sicily. With a population of over 60,000 students, it is the main university in Sicily.

The Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Salerno is born in 2011, by the association of researchers, coming from Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Food Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering.
